WA-Probate > Washington-Guardianship > Creating the Guardianship: Preparing for Court > Designating a Resident Agent
The Issue: No resident agent is required so long as the Guardian is a resident of Washington. If the Guardian is not a resident of Washington, then RCW 11.88.020(1)(d) requires the Guardian to designate a resident agent within the State who will accept service of process for the guardianship. The agent is required to be either:
A resident of the county of the Court where the
Petition for Guardianship will be filed, or
The attorney of record for the guardianship.
If you are not a Washington resident and you are appearing pro se (ie, without an attorney), then you will need to designate a resident of that county as your Resident Agent by completing and signing a
having your appointed Resident Agent sign the Designation consenting to his/her appointment, and then filing it when you go to Court.
